Famous Movies Set In New York City

New York City has always been a city of romance and intrigue. Whether it’s those magical New York winters, the fantastic shopping or just the friendly folks you’ll meet on the street there New York is truly seems to be in its own little world. Countless movies have been set in this great city and it’s easy to work out why when you consider just how magical a place the Big Apple is. Whether it’s James dreaming of travelling there in his giant peach or a modern day love story including the kiss on top of the Empire State building, the Big Apple is the perfect setting for a good movie.

Here’s a list of some of the greatest New York based movies ever made… and don’t worry, we’ve not included Ghostbusters, which you’d probably expect! Here goes.

Sleepless In Seattle

Okay, so Seattle is in the title, but the main action happens in New York. Anyone who has ever seen this movie will instantly fall in love with it. I’m not the biggest romance fan out there, but to see a grieving Tom Hanks finally move on and kiss Meg Ryan at the top of the Empire State Building, really is heart warming!

American Psycho

Imagine a smooth talking successful New York CEO with everything he could ever want, whos dark secret is that he likes to murder people with a chainsaw. American Psycho is one of Christan Bale’s earlier roles and is a whole world away from Batman.

Home Alone 2: Lost In New York

Nothing oozes Christmas like an evening of Macaulay Culkin exploring the wonders of New York alone after his family stupidly leave him behind once again! It’s a classic and it just never gets old!

Enchanted

A fairytale Princess lost in the concrete jungle of New York. You don’t have to be a fan of modern day Disney to appreciate such a cozy little film that’s filled with magic, evil Queen’s and the Big Apple!

When Harry Met Sally

This is definitely one of the most notable New York movies of all time. Once again Meg Ryan has found the love of her life and she just doesn’t know it! Sure, a little predictable – nevertheless it’s a heart warmer. Our tip? Check out Katz's Delicatessen, which is where Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal filmed a famous scene in the 1989 movie.
