Nelson's Column: #UKIP's Politics of Fear

Friday, 13 November 2015. Terrorists strike in Paris, France, killing over 140 people and injuring hundreds of others. The world mourns. David Cameron and Jeremy Corbyn offer their condolences and condemn the terrorist attacks. And France closes its borders to prevent the terrorists from escaping and also heightens security.

UKIP, meanwhile, takes a different approach. UKIP MEP Suzanne Evans tweeted:

'Does France closing borders imply terrorists are not 'home grown' but incomers taking advantage of current migrant crisis? #ParisAttacks'

UKIP will unashamedly stoop to any level for political gain and this is just another example of the party's politics of fear. Suzanne Evans's comments are unnecessary, unhelpful and unacceptable, and it's clear she is inciting xenophobia and Islamophobia.

Only this week UKIP joined in with the Tories' and Murdoch gutter press's attack gain at Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, using Remembrance Sunday for political gain. This is not only disrespectful to the war dead but disrespectful for Britain.

UKIP MEPs also exploited 1,400 child abuse victims for political gain to try and win a by-election against Labour, which backfired, and when parties resorts to these measures it says more about them than it does us.

Also this week, another UKIP MEP incited Islamophobia. Jane Collins posted a Breitbart news article - which is completely false - on her Facebook page and suggested Muslim men keep virgin females in their harem.

I just wish for once in this life UKIP would keep their xenophobic mouths shut. It is no wonder the party won only one seat in Parliament and it is clear UKIP is on a mission to divide Britain even more than it already is under this Tory dictatorship, led by none-other than David Cameron.

UKIP, your politics of fear is the reason why you failed to make a 'political earthquake' at the election and you will never get into government - which is something we should all be thankful for.
