Hackney's HOPE Versus Joshua Bonehill's HATE

Yeovil's Neo-Nazi Joshua Bonehill practicing his Fascist "leader" look...
Hackney's residents are organising as a community to respond inclusively and positively to convicted serial liar and self-confessed fascist Joshua Bonehill's attempt to incite racial hatred in their borough.
A group of racists, organised by the infamous Daily Bale's owner, have decided to come to Hackney on 22 March to incite racial hatred. The initial instigator (a dangerously deluded individual from Yeovil) has been charged with various offences and his bail conditions prevent him from attending. However, other equally virulent racists have taken up the call.

While these often very violent individuals will be few  in number, they do intend to come into Hackney and target the Jewish community of Stamford Hill. Their strategy is to provoke a fight and then claim that multiculturalism leads to conflict.

 Hackney Chooses HOPE
Hackney anti-racists are planning to leaflet the area calling on people to actively show solidarity with their neighbours and to celebrate Hackney. But they want to be imaginative and are excited by this simple initiative whereby they take photographs together with people of different communities with the slogan: 'we choose hope'

Help them send a message that reaches to Yeovil and beyond.
Get together with friends and neighbours and take a photograph with the slogan: 'we choose hope', then tweet it, or post on Facebook (and send a copy to them; Hackneyunites@btinternet.com) and they will then begin to tweet these in the run up to the 22 March.

They are also planning to decorate Stamford Hill with rainbow ribbons as a sign of our vision of an inclusive Hackney (so they will need help).
If you have any ideas of how they can show that Hackney is celebrating its diversity and that it rejects the hate mongers, or if you will volunteer to help them distribute leaflets or decorate the common, please click here.

A warning from history
While the Bonehill's gang members' target on 22 March is the Jewish community, these are genuine 'wannabe' nazis; they hate everyone.

Given the nature of the threat, it seems appropriate that Pastor Niemoeller, a victim of the original Nazi regime, be quoted:

"First they came for the Communists, but I was not a Communist so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Socialists and the Trade Unionists, but I was neither, so I did not speak out. Then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew so I did not speak out. And when they came for me, there was no one left to speak out for me."

Between now and the 22 March they/we hope that everyone in Hackney will speak out.

Get more involved
Hackney Unites is a coalition for social justice and their members have been promoting community organising in the borough for over five years. They are actively supporting initiatives in Hoxton, Stamford Hill, Stoke Newington and Dalston, and are keen to help new groups emerge across the borough. If you would like to know more about how you can get involved, then drop them a line to hackneyunites@btinternet.com
