US: The Man of Steel's 80th Anniversary Culminates With Big Screen Double Feature of 'The Death of Superman' and 'Reign of the Supermen' in Special Event This January

'The Death of Superman' / 'Reign of the Supermen' Double Feature

Superman's greatest adventure – his death and rebirth – will be unveiled in a special two-day exclusive theatrical event as Warner Bros. and DC join forces with Fathom Events for a double feature presentation of the previously released The Death of Superman and the first in-theater screening of the all-new Reign of the Supermen nationwide on January 13 and 14, 2019.

As the second half of the double feature, Reign of the Supermen will be seen nationally in theaters ahead of its Warner Bros. Home Entertainment release on Digital starting January 15, 2019, and on Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack and Blu-ray Combo Pack on January 29, 2019.

'The Death of Superman'

The Man of Steel meets his ultimate match when the monstrous, unstoppable creature Doomsday comes to Earth – hell bent on destroying everything and everyone in his path, including the Justice League – in the action-packed The Death of Superman. In the second half of this two-part landmark tale, Reign of the Supermen finds Earth's citizens – and the Man of Steel's heroic contemporaries – dealing with a world without Superman. 

But the aftermath of Superman's death, and the subsequent disappearance of his body, leads to a new mystery – is Superman still alive? 

The question is further complicated when four new super-powered individuals – Steel, Cyborg Superman, Superboy and the Eradicator – emerge to claim themselves as the ultimate hero. 

In the end, will any of them prove to be the real Man of Steel?

'Reign of the Supermen'

Fathom Events, Warner Bros. and DC present The Death of Superman / Reign of the Supermen Double Feature in more than 500 select movie theaters on Sunday, January 13 at 12:55 p.m. and Monday, January 14 at 8:00 p.m. (all local times), through Fathom's Digital Broadcast Network (DBN).

• The two-part film is an animated adaptation of "The Death Of Superman," DC's' landmark 1992-93 comic phenomenon, and features an all-star voice cast led by Jerry O'Connell (Carter, Bravo's Play  by Play, Stand By Me), Rebecca Romijn (X-Men, The Librarians) and Rainn Wilson (The Office, The Meg) as the voices of Superman, Lois Lane and Lex Luthor, respectively. The trio is joined by Jason O'Mara (The Man in the High Castle, Terra Nova) as Batman, Rosario Dawson (Sin City, Rent, Daredevil) as Wonder Woman, Shemar Moore (S.W.A.T., Criminal Minds) as Cyborg, Nathan Fillion (Castle, The Rookie) as Green Lantern/Hal Jordan, Matt Lanter (Timeless, 90210) as Aquaman, Christopher Gorham (Covert Affairs, Insatiable) as The Flash, and Nyambi Nyambi (Mike & Molly, The Good Fight) as Martian Manhunter, as well as Cress Williams (Black Lightning) as Steel, Cameron Monaghan (Gotham) as Superboy, Patrick Fabian (Better Call Saul) as Hank Henshaw & Cyborg Superman, Charles Halford(Constantine) as Bibbo Bibbowski and The Eradicator, and Tony Todd (Candyman) as Darkseid.

Bidders From 26 Countries Chased Superhero Toys, Including Record-Smashing Walking Batman, at Vintage Toy Auction

Batman first captured the public's attention in 1939, when he appeared on the cover of Detective Comics #27. Since then, the masked crime-fighter has remained in the forefront of American pop culture, dominating all media and delighting generations of children in the form of toys that reflect Batman's complex world of heroes and villains. 

⏩On October 13, a classic battery-operated Walking Batman coolly strolled across the auction block at Milestone Auctions and in so doing set a new world auction record at $16,800.

Made in the postwar Japan by TN, the 12-inch Walking Batman was new/old store stock and appeared never to have been played with. Its original Japanese-version box was a rare bonus and depicted "Adam West" as Batman with sidekick Robin in the Batmobile. 

"There was a lot of action on that toy from all over the world. It opened on our website with an absentee bid of $2,500 and was already up to $10,000 before the auction even started," said Milestone co-owner Miles King. "From all that we can determine, the $16,800 selling price is a new auction record for the Walking Batman toy."

Space fantasy toys were in great demand. A boxed Buck Rogers U-238 Atomic Pistol Holster Set estimated at $800-$1,200 soared to new heights, landing at $4,440. 

"We couldn't believe what some of the Buck Rogers items went for. There was a very nice selection in our sale, all from one consignor," King said. "Buck Rogers was one of the earliest space-themed characters. It's hard to believe he was introduced some 90 years ago and still has such a huge following with collectors."

A Superman Krypto-Raygun made by Daisy was all original and presented in a colorfully lithographed box complete with all six filmstrips and instruction sheet. An early Superman toy designed to allow the user to point the ray gun at a wall and view "picture stories." 
⏩ It rose to $2,280.

Another crowd-pleaser was Transogram's Elroy Jetson Bobbing Pull Toy Space Car. It was offered in mint condition and sealed on its original display card with images of both Elroy and his dad George and a tagline about the vehicle's "GRR-RR Motor Sound." 
⏩ Estimated at $800-$1,000, it made $1,860.

Also, a 7-inch tin friction Flying Saucer Z-101 in its crisp, colorful original box disintegrated its $400-$600 estimate to settle at $3,480. "It had a crude, early look that space toy collectors love," King noted.

For Disney fans there was an impressive array of 1930s through postwar-era toys. A rare and near-mint Marx boxed set featuring Pinocchio and Figaro the Cat tin windups, both in tip-top condition, was the ultimate two-for-the-price-of-one deal. 
⏩ Estimated at $1,000-$1,500, the set more than doubled expectations, finishing at $3,480.

"We could not have been more pleased with the way this auction went," said King. "It was 100% sold and grossed over $290,000. We saw many new faces at the gallery, and there were online and phone bidders from 26 countries, all pointing to a strong and well-supported toy market."

US: Warriors, Families, and Avengers Assemble at Marvel Universe Live

Injured veterans and their families immersed themselves into the wild live-action world of Marvel comic book heroes during a recent Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) event. When warriors and their families come together, that's when the healing happens.

"My son loves everything Marvel," said Army National Guard veteran Jason Bowden. "He and the other kids at the event were thoroughly entertained with the Marvel heroes and villains, and I enjoyed being with fellow warriors and my family. Being a warrior is a great honor for me."

This energetic experience brought warriors and their families face-to-face with Spider-Man, Black Panther, the Hulk, and Captain America — all on one stage, where they used their powers in an epic quest to defend the universe from evil.

WWP program gatherings offer settings that provide opportunities for injured veterans to form bonds with one another, their families, and their communities.

"I took my son and invited my twin sister and niece," said Army National Guard veteran Sonya Merkman. "We thought the character actors did a great job. My son and I were glad to see our favorite hero, the Hulk." 

Socializing with other veterans helps warriors connect with the support network they need to overcome the challenges they face. In a WWP survey (www.woundedwarriorproject.org/survey) of the wounded warriors it serves, more than half of survey respondents (51.6 percent) expressed they talk with fellow veterans to address their mental health issues.

"Wounded Warrior Project, to me, means support," Sonya said. "This is an organization that my boyfriend, who is also a warrior, and I are grateful for. It allows families to get involved in relaxing and stress-reducing activities."

Hivemind Acquires Hit Comic Series GIDEON FALLS for TV Adaptation

Gideon Falls, the hit comic series from New York Times best-selling writer Jeff Lemire and illustrator Andrea Sorrentino, will soon be coming to television in partnership with Hivemind

Hivemind today announced that it has won an intense multi-studio bidding war and acquired the rights to bring the hit Image Comics comic book series, GIDEON FALLS, to television in partnership with co-creators Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino. 

Hivemind's Jason Brown, Sean Daniel, Kathy Lingg and Dinesh Shamdasani will executive produce the series alongside co-creators Lemire and Sorrentino with high-level creative talent already circling the project.

An atmospheric thriller colliding rural mystery and urban horror, the series follows an ensemble cast of seemingly random strangers – a washed-up Catholic priest, an uncompromising female sheriff, and a young recluse obsessed with unraveling a conspiracy buried in his city's trash – as they become drawn into a mystery connected to a long-forgotten local legend.

Established in 2018, Hivemind is the new production entity from long-time producing partners Sean Daniel and Jason Brown, Bad Robot veteran Kathy Linggand former Valiant Entertainment CEO & Chief Creative Officer Dinesh Shamdasani. 

Dedicated to partnering with high-level creative talent and globally recognized intellectual properties from the worlds of science fiction, fantasy, horror, comic books, video games, anime, and more, 

Hivemind recently inked a first-look deal with Amazon Studios. GIDEON FALLS marks a major new rights acquisition for the label, which will develop the series as an hour-long horror drama based on Lemire and Sorrentino's repeatedly sold-out, critically acclaimed comic title of the same name that instantly became one of 2018's biggest breakout hits upon its debut in March.

⏩ The company currently produces the acclaimed science fiction series The Expanse – which recently made a historic move to Amazon – as well as Netflix's upcoming adaptation of The Witcher, based on the series of novels that inspired the best-selling game franchise. Its next feature film will be Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark with producer/co-writer Guillermo del Toro and director André Øvredal, which begins production this summer.

Lemire and Shamdasani previously collaborated on multiple best-selling comics projects, including The Valiant and Bloodshot Reborn, during his time at the helm of Valiant Entertainment, which Shamdasani departed following a major acquisition in early 2018. 

In addition to his duties at Hivemind, Shamdasani is also currently producing a big-screen adaptation of the Bloodshot comic book series for Sony Pictures with star Vin Diesel, director Dave Wilson, and Academy Award-nominated screenwriter Eric Heisserer that is set to begin filming this summer.

In addition to composing for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 & Vol. 2 and winning a BMI Film Music Award for the first, he co-wrote and produced a fan favorite "disco version" of "Guardians Inferno" [feat. David Hasselhoff], performed the second installment's score at the 2017 MOSMA Festival in Spain, and crafted the music for the Disney California Adventure attraction Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission Breakout!

Meanwhile, John Wick: Chapter 2 represents the nexus of his work as a composer, performer, and songwriter. He penned the closing credits tune "A Job To Do" alongside legendary Alice In Chains guitarist and vocalist Jerry Cantrell and performed on-screen during the climactic "Rock Opera" sequence, rocking a guitar-viol on stage with Le Castle Vania and Nostalghia. 

Samurai Jack offered a similar experience. After overseeing score production for Samurai Jack with composers, Joanne Higginbottom and Dieter Hartmann, he took the stage to perform a suite of the score at a sold-out Ace Theatre concert.

Samurai Jack is just one of his many TV credits. His sonic presence can also be felt throughout Netflix's The Punisher, Showtime's Californication, Audience Network's Kingdom, WGN America's Salem, and more as well as video games such as Killzone: Shadow Fall, God of War: Ascension, Army of Two: The 40th Day, and most recently Crossfire.

2014 saw the birth of a powerful partnership with Marilyn Manson, touring the world. After meeting on a Californication performance, Bates went on to co-write and produce the 2015 epic, The Pale Emperor and the follow up in 2017, Heaven Upside Down. A runaway worldwide success, it achieved the Top 10 of the BillboardTop 200 at #6 and earned widespread critical acclaim with Rolling Stone hailing it as the "#1 Metal Album of 2015."

Bates handled music for the blockbuster Atomic Blonde starring Academy Award winner Charlize Theron. For the project, he also produced Health's cover of "Blue Monday" and re-invigorated and revitalized Ministry's "Stigmata" with Manson for key sequences in the film. 

On the big screen, he can be heard in the critically acclaimed The Belko Experiment as well as Public and 24 Hours to Live, while his voice permeates NETFLIX's The Punisher and Season 2 of The Exorcist.
