Half of Americans Say Donald Trump Deserves Coal in His Stocking

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas and as carols are sung and eggnog is sipped, it's time to start thinking about what presents one might find under the tree. But some politicians should be nervous that they may find coal in their stocking instead.

Half of Americans (49%) say President Donald Trump deserves coal in his stocking at Christmas and this includes almost one-quarter (22%) of Republicans, seven in ten (71%) Democrats and over half (54%) of Independents. This is from an online survey conducted by Regina Corso Consulting among 2,049 U.S. adults, 18 and older between December 10 and 12, 2019.

The leaders of Congress fare a little better. Over one-third of Americans (35%) say Speaker Nancy Pelosi deserves coal in her stocking and this includes almost two-thirds of Republicans (63%), over one in ten Democrats (13%) and over one-third of Independents (36%).

Three in ten U.S. adults (29%) say Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell deserves coal including one-quarter of Republicans (24%) and one-third of Democrats (32%) and Independents (33%).

Looking at four of the top contenders for the Democratic nomination, three in ten Americans say former VP Joe Biden (31%) and Senator Elizabeth Warren (30%) deserve coal, almost three in ten (28%) say Senator Bernie Sanders does and one in five (21%) say Mayor Pete Buttigieg deserves coal. Just around one in ten Democrats say each of these deserves coal and one-third of Independents say VP Biden (33%) and Sen. Warren (33%) do while around one-quarter of Independents say Sen. Sanders (27%) and Mayor Pete (23%) deserve coal. Over one in ten Americans (15%) say none of these seven politicians deserves coal.

This goes hand in hand with the fact that four in five Americans (81%) say that politicians seem to have forgotten what the holiday season is all about. And, politics is causing change – almost one-quarter of Americans have taken people off their holiday giving lists because of their political views (23%) and have stopped sending holiday card to people because of their political views (22%).

Holiday Party Do's and Don'ts: Ten Ways to Stay off the "Naughty List"

by
Holiday Party Do's and Don'ts: Ten Ways to Stay off the "Naughty List"
Holiday Party Do's and Don'ts: Ten Ways to Stay off the "Naughty List" (PRNewsfoto/XpertHR)
The holiday season brings many reasons to celebrate, and some employers make merry by hosting an employee holiday party. This occasion presents an opportunity for employers to express appreciation for the hard work performed by staff all year.

Despite their laudable intentions, employers could face liability for the conduct of employees who behave inappropriately at a work festivity, according to XpertHR, an online compliance resource. A holiday party may create unintended negative consequences for employers in a variety of ways. The workplace holiday party can become a breeding ground for all kinds of regrettable and potentially unlawful behavior, from claims of religious discrimination to sexual harassment and drunk driving.

Employers should be especially careful when serving alcohol at a holiday party. Without safeguards in place, alcohol consumption can quickly transform a lively celebration into a minefield of inadvertent consequences. With lowered inhibitions, employees may make unwanted sexual advances, inappropriate gestures, or offensive remarks which can result in claims of harassment and discrimination. In addition, if an intoxicated employee drives away from the company party and injures someone, or causes property damage, an employer may be liable for negligence.

"Providing employees with the opportunity to socialize with co-workers in a relaxing environment is an excellent way to improve employee morale," explains Beth Zoller, Legal Editor, XpertHR. "However, serving alcohol to employees is a risk and a potential liability. Therefore, employers should ensure that employees are aware of the employer's code of conduct and policies regarding harassment and improper conduct. This is particularly true in the #MeToo era when the risk of liability is heightened."
Be aware that if alcohol is being served, attendees may be less likely to behave appropriately. Overindulgence in alcohol may also lead to negligence claims for property damage or physical and emotional injuries, whether the employee is on or off the clock. Management should make sure that all employees are completely sober before getting behind the wheel and avoid drinking and driving while intoxicated at all costs.
"Even though the event may be held away from the employer's premises and during what is generally considered to be nonworking hours, the employer should reiterate that the same policies are in effect and that employees should treat each other with respect and common courtesy," says Zoller.
Religious symbols, while seemingly innocuous, may appear culturally discriminatory and offend employees. Employers should avoid overly religious decorations and music as this may lead to religious discrimination claims. Further, attendance should not be mandatory and employers should be willing excuse an employee from attending a holiday party as a religious accommodation if it violates the employee's own religious practices.

10 ways an employer can minimize the risk of liability when it comes to holiday parties:

  • Notify Employees that All Workplace Policies Remain in Effect
  • Have Supervisors Set a Good Example
  • Exercise Caution if Serving Alcohol
  • Keep Controlled Substances Under Control
  • Keep the Focus Off Religion
  • Do Not Make Attendance Mandatory
  • Plan the Menu and Entertainment For a Diverse Group
  • Be Inclusive of All Employees
  • Consider Whether to Invite Spouses or Significant Others
  • Respond to Complaints in a Timely Fashion

Yes, Mary Knew: Biography by Irene Baron Details God's Plan for Mary

by
"MARY KNEW - A Biography of Mary from Ancient Scriptures" - Book Cover
"MARY KNEW - A Biography of Mary from Ancient Scriptures" - Book Cover
Ohio native, Irene Baron, is irritated whenever she hears the song, "Mary, Did You Know?" She stated, "That beautiful song gives the wrong impression.  If people think Mary was an average teenager, they're in for a big surprise! Mary and almost everyone in Galilee knew her destiny."
Based on eyewitness testimony by James, the youngest son of Joseph, Baron explains exactly what Mary knew. She reports that Mary's story is filled with angels, miracles and fulfilling of prophecies.
Baron wrote the book, MARY KNEW – A Biography of Mary from Ancient Scriptures, in the historical narrative format as reading scriptures is difficult for some people.
Her readers will learn that:
  • God named, blessed, and consecrated Mary to be the mother of His Son before Mary's conception.
  • Messenger angels told her parents Mary would be the most important woman to be born on Earth.
  • Angels dictated what her parents were to feed her, how to care for her, and to move her to the Jerusalem Temple at age three.
  • Living in the Temple for over a decade, Mary conversed daily with angels who fed her.
  • During that time she made a holy vow to God which created later difficulties.
Irene Baron's book provides details about hardships Mary's parents endured, Mary's birth, her first 3 years, the Temple years, a very reluctant Joseph, the rough betrothal, and the birth of Jesus.

James' eyewitness account of Christ's birth describes a holy phenomenon not witnessed since.
Baron reports, "People tell me they get chills reading about the birth because of the miracles that occurred when it happened."
Bible scholars report that James' scriptures were not placed in the New Testament because that section of the Bible was composed of books about Jesus, not His mother
James became a chief Apostle and was the first Bishop of Christian churches in Jerusalem. His scriptures were used in the Christian churches for hundreds of years.

Satirical Christmas Stories Featuring President Trump Launched On Kickstarter

by
"The Christmas Hoax" (Trump's 24 Days of Christmas)
"The Christmas Hoax" (Trump's 24 Days of Christmas)
President Trump is one of the most controversial people in the world right now. No matter what he says or does, someone has something to say about it. As a result of this controversy, a new collection of Christmas stories has been published by We Just What, Inc.
"Trump's 24 Days of Christmas" is a collection of 24 children's stories written from the point-of-view of United States President, Donald Trump. As such, the stories have a political angle, though it's only visible to adults as well as older children who have learned about politics.
The book is rated PG - Partisan Guidance Suggested! The 24 stories take a fun look at the news stories we have been bombarded with over the last 2 years. However, the stories are never judgmental. The stories can be read to children by parents or parents can choose to let the children read the stories out loud.
"This is a great tradition to start," comments the author of the books, Amin El-Gazzar. "Children can read a different story each night leading up to Christmas morning. And parents can start a fun conversation with their kids about the craziness going on all around us."
The stories are entertaining, with tales of what's going on at the North Pole. The character lineup throughout the stories includes Santa (as President Trump) and Mrs. Claus (as the First Lady), his head elf (Layla – as Kellyanne Conway), the reindeer, some penguins, and plenty of elves who have a lot of responsibilities in order to get ready for Christmas Eve when Santa takes to the sky in his sleigh to deliver presents.
"Pledge allegiance to the flag of the North Pole..." (Trump's 24 Days of Christmas)

The book will be just as popular with adults as it will be for kids. "I'd highly recommend any adult to get their hands on the book just to place on the coffee table. It's definitely going to be a conversation starter," comments Amin El-Gazzar.

A Kickstarter page has been created to help get the necessary funding. Whether you love or hate President Trump - anyone will enjoy reading the book and they can choose to fund the project for any amount.

By choosing to fund the Kickstarter, it also enables people to reserve their copy of the book to ensure that they have it in their hands by December 1, 2018.

For those who are interested in the Kickstarter, the launch is happening now. Visit theKickstarter page at 24DaysOfChristmas.com. The goal is to get all of the funds in place as early as possible so that the book is live in time for the Christmas season.

This weekend marks the fifth anniversary of Small Business Saturday, a day that shines a spotlight on all the amazing small and independent businesses across the country in this busy Christmas shopping period.

While at The Cake House, Billie Piper alongside the cafĆ© owner,
Lorenzo Khan helped out, baking and icing cakes to encourage everyone to get out there and support Small Business Saturday

Lorenzo has owned the cafƩ for over 15 years making it an integral part of the community in which Billie and many others live.
"I've been coming to The Cake House - daily! - since I moved to the area. I live locally and absolutely love the relationships with people in what feels like a village. I want my kids to know people in the community and be able to come into The Cake House and ask for their ridiculous desert requests! I come to The Cake House all the time and Lorenzo has managed to get my daily coffee order down from three shots to two which, in fairness, took quite some doing."

Small Business Saturday sees thousands of small businesses all over the country take part every year since its inception. According to research undertaken by American Express, founder of Small Business Saturday, last year a total of over £717 million pounds was spent by shoppers on this particular day.

⏩ 3,610 UK adults were polled by Toluna between 8pm on Saturday 3rd December 2016 and 8am on Monday 5th December 2016.

Billie Piper partnered with American Express to celebrate the United Kingdom's thriving small independent businesses, such as The Cake House, to encourage shoppers to go out and 'shop small' this weekend.
"I was delighted when Amex asked me to help support this year's Small Business Saturday. They actually read about me talking about local businesses that I'm passionate about in my local press and decided to contact me to get involved. Independent retailers across the UK offer so much more to a community than just a shop - and that is something I really care about."

Q: Why do you think it’s important to support Small Business Saturday?
A: “Because small businesses are amazing! They really are the unsung heroes of communities and the high street. When Amex approached me to support Small Business Saturday I jumped at the opportunity, I am a true believer in shopping small and local. Plus it’s Christmas, so if you want a gift that’s really special, then hunt around your local small businesses, especially this weekend. And that goes for food shopping too; small businesses are brilliant for advice and ideas on how to ‘do’ Christmas”.

Q: Billie Piper Why did you choose to drop in to The Cake House ahead of Small Business Saturday?
A: “I’ve been coming to The Cake House since I moved to the area. I’ve always loved local businesses that I can walk to, and when The Cake House opened, I was there like a flash. It’s so nice having Lorenzo in the area, he’s a total star and he makes a mean cake. His passion is so inspiring”.

Q: Billie Piper Any dessert traditions for Christmas day?
A: “Sherry trifle!”

Q: Billie Piper Small Business Saturday is an initiative to encourage people to get out and shop small. What do you think independent retailers contribute to a local community?
A: “Independent retailers who live & work locally, really are the glue that holds a community together. There’s a lovely vibe to Lorenzo’s. He says that his ‘mission’ was to make his business feel like it’s an extension of everyone’s living room and that’s 100% what he’s achieved, it’s so relaxed. My Mum goes there all the time too.”

Q: Billie Piper What are your other favourite independent retailers?
A: “There are so many that I love, particularly around my local community, but besides The Cake House & Lorenzo – there’s Frost on Bellenden Road in Peckham; a fantastic Mid-century furniture store which also specializes in art, antiques and utterly brilliant rarities and I always find a unique treasure there; and, Libreria in East London, an independent book store – it’s so beautifully set up, you can spend hours in there and find something truly beautiful”.

Q: Billie Piper How do you think what you are doing will help to support Small Business Saturday?
A: “Honestly I just hope that people think about all the brilliant small businesses out there. I hope that by working with AMEX as a Shop Small Ambassador, we can encourage people all over the UK to see that all these independent retailers offer so much more to a community that just being ‘a shop’. By supporting local, independent businesses - you’re investing in your local community which is brilliant”.

Q: Billie Piper Have you started your Christmas shopping and what are the Billie Piper family Christmas traditions?
A: “Yes I have actually. As for traditions, there’s always a proper prawn cocktail for starter on Christmas Day, and always the Queen’s Speech on telly – live, never recorded!”

Q: Billie Piper If you could have your own independent retailer, what would it be? Where would it located?
A: “A florist underneath my house has always been my dream!”

Q: Billie Piper Are you working on any projects next year which you’d like to share?
A:“I’m going to perform “Yerma” in New York, Spring of next year and after that I will direct and star in an independent film that I’ve also written, so that’s incredibly exciting”.

"I Am So Sick Of White Guys: The Coloring Book Experience" Launches In Time For Christmas

by
“I am So Sick of White Guys: The Coloring Book Experience” - Cover
“I am So Sick of White Guys: The Coloring Book Experience” launches in time for Christmas
"I am So Sick of White Guys: The Coloring Book Experience" has launched just in time to hit the Christmas stockings of frustrated Americans everywhere. In fact, the political and social situation has become so confounding that even white guys are now sick of white guys!

Authors Jim Corbett and Tim Jones worked with artist Steve Hartley (all from just north of Seattle) to create a collection of cleverly rendered images that clearly capture the current cultural climate and skewer some sacred cows from history, as well.

Each image is accompanied by witty, sarcastic and, yes, sometimes even snarky comments that just might be the elixir you need to help you cope with what is happening to the greatest democracy the world has ever known. (Remember when our elections were decided by that insane thing called the 'Electoral College,' instead of that even more insane thing called, 'Russia?')

Are you tired of whiny white guys complaining that their gigantic piece of the pie is now being nibbled away by interlopers of other colors, races, creeds, non-creeds and even by people from an entirely different gender altogether? Well, it's about time! Are you offended by the 'Pedophiles for Jesus' wing of the Alabama Republican party? So are we! If you agree that the world is ready to hear from the many other voices that make up our multi-ethnic, multi-faceted society, and if you are getting less and less satisfaction from screaming at your TV, then I am So Sick of White Guys could be for you.
Some people have suggested this might not be a good time for a book such as this, but co-author Corbett disagrees saying, "There is a long and healthy tradition of political satire and parody in the United States, and we believe there is no better time than right now to make sure the voices of hatred and exclusivity are turned back."

Jones supported that sentiment pointing out that, "In order to make sure this book is not mistaken for a vehicle of intolerance, ten percent of the profits are being donated to the Southern Poverty Law Center, which devotes its efforts to opposing hate groups."
