The discovery of nuclear power brought about an age of cleaner energy. Nuclear power plants create more energy and release less pollution into the air than the previously used coal plants. While nuclear power seems like the perfect answer to keeping our air clean it is not without dangers. The radioactive materials used in a nuclear power plant are highly volatile and must be closely monitored in a tightly control environment. If even one small detail fails the consequences can be unimaginably disastrous.
The events that occurred on April 26th 1986 in the Ukraine at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant are a testament and reminder of what can happen if the safety nets put in place fail. This tragedy is considered the worst nuclear power disaster in history.

"Boko Haram just used a 10-year-old girl as a bomb-detonator right after massacring up to 2,000 people. But the government and the international community are hardly responding. Let’s call for an emergency UN Security Council meeting now."

The sceptical may also be interested to know that Valentine’s Day is not a new craze or Victorian idealistic notion! The history of Valentine’s Day date back to many hundreds of years. Although there are differing versions of how it actually all began. It is believed to have started in 496 AD when Pope Gelasius dedicated February 14 to honour Saint Valentine.
Saint Valentine is thought to have become the Patron Saint of lovers after leaving a message to his jailer’s daughter signed ‘from your Valentine’ before he was executed in on February 14 296 AD for refusing to relinquish his faith in Christianity.
Valentine’s Day is recorded to have been acknowledged and celebrated in the Middle Ages; young men and women placed their names into a bowl and randomly drew one out; they would then pin the name of their Valentine onto their sleeve for a week-hence the expression ‘wearing your heart on your sleeve’ to show how you are feeling.
The Persian custom of the ‘language of flowers’ to convey messages without speech is believed to have been introduced into Europe by Charles II. The red rose is the flower which traditionally symbolises love and passion; which is believed to be the reason this particular flower is associated with Valentines. The Victorians continued to use flowers to send hidden messages to their lovers.
Whatever the reasons, customs and beliefs associated with Valentine’s Day, February 14th has, over many hundreds of years become the day to send messages and gifts of flowers to someone as a token of your love and affection for them.
A dozen ruby red roses with their thorns removed-to prevent injury to your lover! is considered to be the quintessential Valentine gift. For those who wish to really push the boat out enormous bunches of fifty red roses will offer a flamboyant romantic gesture of love!

The human mind can be separated into the conscious and the subconscious mind. Only a small minority has ever managed to tap into the subconscious mind, understand and utilize its power fully. Because the subconscious mind never needs to rest, it is boundless and unlimited in its ability to bring you success. However, if you do not utilize it, it will be left to atrophy. Everyone has tremendous mental capacity; it is up to you to make the most of it.
If you leave it, your subconscious mind will be like a garden that is unattended - the weeds will take over. Use affirmations to your advantage at the optimum times when your subconscious mind is listening.

Charlie Hebdo is back with a vengeance, giving the finger (or, to be more accurate, "un bras d'honneur") to all the terrorists out there (though in this issue, it's mainly aimed at the Islamist ones)...
Whatever we think of Charlie Hebdo's special brand of humour and what is published in it, at the end of the day, nobody (and I do mean nobody) should die because of their beliefs or/and political views.
Let's all be Charlie on that one!

Music and humor can intersect in one of three ways.
The first way is when serious artists get clever. This would be The Who's "Squeeze Box," The Ramones "I Want to be Sedated," or Aerosmith's "Dude Looks Like a Lady." Basically, a band or artist takes a break from singing about important subjects-like sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll-to show us they have a sense of humor.

Before it became a highly popular fashion accessory, the head scarf was already an important and vital piece of clothing that women who abided by a certain code of dress due to their religious affiliation had to put on lest they be reprimanded. There are still countless women who must don this long piece of cloth to cover their hair, with some even being required to cover their entire head with only their faces or just their eyes being exposed, while there are many women who consider it nothing more than an optional accessory that they can choose to wear.
