Does Technology Affect Sleep? [Infographic]

by

If you are (or know) someone like me who spends quite a lot of time online, you'll probably answer yes to that question as, unfortunately, there are only 24 hours in a day and, to be able to do "what needs to be done on the net", a rather big slice of our needed sleeping time usually does tend to get sacrificed in the process.

But, through today's infographic, we have the opportunity to explore the relationship between modern technology and sleep disturbances and find out out that our sleep is not just affected by our online habits... Television, video games and mobile phones can be as much guilty as our trusty PC or laptop. Oooh Yes, they are!

On the plus side, this infographic also shows us what we can do to achieve a better night’s sleep. So, don't panic! There is no need to throw our beloved game console/TV set/PC/laptop/mobile phone/etc... out of the window yet

Enjoy!

Let's Tell Tesco To Sell Seafood, NOT Slavefood!

by
We call on Tesco to immediately cease purchasing of seafood from Thailand until they can conclusively and transparently demonstrate that their supply chains are free from slavery.
Following a number of recent reports into slavery in the Thai seafood industry, including a recent Guardian exposé and investigations from the Environmental Justice Foundation, it has become clear the seafood sourced from Thailand is highly likely to be tainted with slavery.
As consumers, we want to know that the seafood we buy has not been produced by slaves.

Rape... It's Never Right!

by
"Two young girls were hanged from a tree after being gang raped in India. Shockingly a minister just responded by saying, "rape...sometimes it's right." The Prime Minister must take action and we can force him by delivering a millions-strong call for an end to the rape epidemic into the city where he holds his seat."
>> Click here to sign the petition <<

The following is an email from Alaphia and Avaaz.org, regarding what's happening to women in India...

We decided to share it with you guys, because we believe that rape is never right and that something has to be done about the current rape epidemic in India.

Have a read, and, sign the petition.

Thanks in advance

by
"A NASA scientist says we've hit the "holy shit" climate moment when irreversible damage to our planet is about to spin out of control. It needs a "holy shit" response. On the weekend of September 20th we can meet world leaders with the largest global climate day of action ever that puts the power back in our hands."

UKIP And The Queen Photoshop - Has UKIP Gone Too Far This Time?

by
Nigel Farage and The Queen of England in Photoshopped UKIP meme

Someone in UKIP must have had their dates mixed up and thought that it was April Fool's Day already... Either that or they don't actually have a clue about how things work when it comes to British politics and the Monarchy...

UKIP has somehow crossed the line there. We all know that the Queen would not endorse any political party (and that she does not vote!)... So, photoshopping her in order to give the impression that she is a UKIP supporter has to be a major royal no no.

Obviously I cannot speak (and I would not dare doing so anyway) on behalf of the Queen, but I don't think that she'll be amused when she sees that.

If you want to make your own mind up about the whole affair, the pic should still be available for viewing on here, but, just in case it got "accidentally" deleted, I've also posted a screencap of it below...

Who Am I? Sherlock Holmes, Khan, Julian Assange, Christopher Tietjens, Ford, Patrick Watts or Smaug?

by

Another week, and another fun quiz, courtesy of PlayBuzz.com...

This one is a very (not so) scientific one that can tell us without any doubt whatsoever which one of those people we are. Yes, really!

And I can reveal straight away that I'm very happy with my result. Oh yes!

I am none other than the greatest detective of all times, Sherlock Holmes himself (must be true as it's what this quiz said, isn't it?)

"You're Sherlock! There's no denying your intelligence and people secretly wish they were a bit more like you. You might boast a bit, but with a brain like yours, why wouldn't you?"
Exactly!  It's so me described to a "t" here, incredible, isn't it?

I can hear you asking where can you do that quiz and find out who you are as soon as possible... Well, it's conveniently  embedded below so that you can find out without any time being wasted. Handy, isn't it?

Have fun!

PS: Let us know your results, okay? Thanks!

Holy 75th Anniversary, Batman! Let's Watch The 1949 "Batman And Robin" Movie!

by

Yep, the Cape Crusader has been around for 75 years already... time flies when one's having fun fighting crime, doesn't it?

To celebrate this important milestone in the DC's superheroes universe, we will post some videos with Batman in them during the next few weeks... and we've started the ball rolling with a mega post with 15 videos in it. 15 videos, because that's the number of episodes the 1949 "Batman and Robin" movie (the one with Robert Lowery and Johnny Duncanhas, and there is one episode per video. Like in the "good old days" when some of the movies were serials, you know...

A quite lengthy trip to memory lane that was made possible thanks to our faithful old TARDIS... (Oh, okay, it's from Dailymotion.com, really, but it's still a great find and, hopefully, you will enjoy it as much as we did.)

Have fun!

'Batman and Robin' - 1949

Storyline:

Antisocial Prof. Hammil's Remote Control device, which enables the user to take over any motor vehicle within 50 miles (!), is stolen by The Wizard, black-hooded mastermind, and his gang. Batman and Robin (who drive about in a standard convertible) must prevent the Wizard from obtaining diamonds, needed as fuel for the device, and rescue magazine photographer Vicki Vale from periodic perils. Where is the Wizard's base, reached only by remote controlled submarine? Which of several suspicious characters hides beneath the Wizard's hood? Written by Rod Crawford

Trivia:

Batman drives a 1949 Mercury convertible throughout, but, in one instance, when the need arises, Robin shows up in a 1949 Mercury four-door sedan, which is apparently his own; meanwhile, the Wizard drives a 1949 Mercury two-door sedan; Winslow Harrison drives a 1949 four-door Lincoln sedan; and the cops use a number of 1949 Fords, all of them innovatingly styled products of the Ford Motor Company, who must have had the only new car dealership in Gotham City. The Wizard's henchmen make a lot of use out of a 1941 Lincoln 8 passenger sedan, while Vicki Vale must make the best of it with a 1939 Plymouth convertible. (more trivia can be found on the IMDb site)

Quotes:

Vicki Vale: Untie me please!
Batman: Haven't got time; you'll be all right. Don't go away!
Officer Murphy: You can't go in there!
Vicki Vale: Well, I'm Vicki Vale of Picture magazine.
Officer Murphy: Vicki Vale, eh? Well, I'm Officer Murphy of the Patrol Bureau. You still can't go in there!
(more quotes can be found on the IMDb site)

'The Fall Of Chicago' & 'TV Spot'- The New 'Transformers: Age Of Extinction' Trailers Have Landed!

by

There have been quite a few videos posted on the official Transformers: Age of Extinction YouTube account these last few days so, if you're a Transformers fan, it might be worth a visit or two... and, so is the Transformers are Dangerous site (where I watched the "Fall of Chicago" trailer first and borrowed the pictures for today's post from). Wow! The content on that site is definitely in tune with the movie's "An automobile mechanic and his daughter make a discovery that brings down the Autobots and Decepticons - and a paranoid government official - on them.story line. It practically oozes paranoia! Loved it!

I've chosen two of the recent trailers for today's post: 'The Fall of Chicago' (apparently still unlisted on YouTube, by the way) and the 'TV Spot' ones... I do hope you'll like them as much as I did.

Enjoy!
