Holy 75th Anniversary, Batman! Let's Watch The 1949 "Batman And Robin" Movie!

by

Yep, the Cape Crusader has been around for 75 years already... time flies when one's having fun fighting crime, doesn't it?

To celebrate this important milestone in the DC's superheroes universe, we will post some videos with Batman in them during the next few weeks... and we've started the ball rolling with a mega post with 15 videos in it. 15 videos, because that's the number of episodes the 1949 "Batman and Robin" movie (the one with Robert Lowery and Johnny Duncanhas, and there is one episode per video. Like in the "good old days" when some of the movies were serials, you know...

A quite lengthy trip to memory lane that was made possible thanks to our faithful old TARDIS... (Oh, okay, it's from Dailymotion.com, really, but it's still a great find and, hopefully, you will enjoy it as much as we did.)

Have fun!

'Batman and Robin' - 1949

Storyline:

Antisocial Prof. Hammil's Remote Control device, which enables the user to take over any motor vehicle within 50 miles (!), is stolen by The Wizard, black-hooded mastermind, and his gang. Batman and Robin (who drive about in a standard convertible) must prevent the Wizard from obtaining diamonds, needed as fuel for the device, and rescue magazine photographer Vicki Vale from periodic perils. Where is the Wizard's base, reached only by remote controlled submarine? Which of several suspicious characters hides beneath the Wizard's hood? Written by Rod Crawford

Trivia:

Batman drives a 1949 Mercury convertible throughout, but, in one instance, when the need arises, Robin shows up in a 1949 Mercury four-door sedan, which is apparently his own; meanwhile, the Wizard drives a 1949 Mercury two-door sedan; Winslow Harrison drives a 1949 four-door Lincoln sedan; and the cops use a number of 1949 Fords, all of them innovatingly styled products of the Ford Motor Company, who must have had the only new car dealership in Gotham City. The Wizard's henchmen make a lot of use out of a 1941 Lincoln 8 passenger sedan, while Vicki Vale must make the best of it with a 1939 Plymouth convertible. (more trivia can be found on the IMDb site)

Quotes:

Vicki Vale: Untie me please!
Batman: Haven't got time; you'll be all right. Don't go away!
Officer Murphy: You can't go in there!
Vicki Vale: Well, I'm Vicki Vale of Picture magazine.
Officer Murphy: Vicki Vale, eh? Well, I'm Officer Murphy of the Patrol Bureau. You still can't go in there!
(more quotes can be found on the IMDb site)

'The Fall Of Chicago' & 'TV Spot'- The New 'Transformers: Age Of Extinction' Trailers Have Landed!

by

There have been quite a few videos posted on the official Transformers: Age of Extinction YouTube account these last few days so, if you're a Transformers fan, it might be worth a visit or two... and, so is the Transformers are Dangerous site (where I watched the "Fall of Chicago" trailer first and borrowed the pictures for today's post from). Wow! The content on that site is definitely in tune with the movie's "An automobile mechanic and his daughter make a discovery that brings down the Autobots and Decepticons - and a paranoid government official - on them.story line. It practically oozes paranoia! Loved it!

I've chosen two of the recent trailers for today's post: 'The Fall of Chicago' (apparently still unlisted on YouTube, by the way) and the 'TV Spot' ones... I do hope you'll like them as much as I did.

Enjoy!

Janice Atkinson - Do The British Voters Really Want That Woman To Represent Them In Europe?

by
UKIP MEP candidate, Janice Atkinson, giving the finger to members of the public

UKIP MEP candidate, Janice Atkinson, might have misunderstood the "get your finger out" expression that day she decided to let her finger do the talking when challenged about some the UK Independence Party's policies (click here for more details) but there is no excuse for any politician to behave in such fashion (and, no, I'm not talking about her pink jacket here) while canvassing for votes.

What Can Be Done In Less Than A Month? #BringBackOurGirls

by

The following is an email we received from aworldatschool.org yesterday... I'm definitely very happy to share it on here as it does prove that there is more to #BringBackOurGirls than just being a trending hashtag. It's also about the right for kids everywhere to get an education without risking their lives.

Anyway, read the email... It'll show you what I mean far better than I would do myself.

Stay safe!

Over 200 Girls Are Missing In Nigeria – Let's Make Sure They'll Be Rescued! #BringBackOurGirls

by

The following is an email I've received earlier today from Change.org regarding a petition to the World Leaders and International Organisations to make sure that not only everything will be done to find the girls who've been abducted in Nigeria a few weeks ago, but also that no child will risk being abducted/attacked for simply seeking an education ever again...

I've signed the petition and I am now sharing that email with you so that you can, if you want to, do the same.

Keep safe!

South Sudan: A Genocide We Can Stop

by

Dear friends,

Women and children pulled from schools and hospitals and killed by the roadside, hate propaganda filling the airwaves - Rwanda 20 years ago? This is happening right now in South Sudan, and we have the power to help stop it.

Two men are to blame: President Salva Kiir and his former deputy Riek Machar. Locked in a bitter power struggle, both are cynically stoking tensions between ethnic groups that have lived peacefully together for decades. Both men have assets and family abroad. If we hit Kiir and Machar where it hurts -- their wallets -- we can stop this nightmare from spiraling into genocide.

Joshua Bonehill's Hunger Strike: Another Porky From The Self-Proclaimed New Messiah? [Updated]

Joshua Bonehill's Hunger Strike: Another Porky From The Self-Proclaimed New Messiah?

When it comes to Joshua Bonehill's claims on the net, it's generally rather difficult to believe that they have actually any truth in them... I mean, he is not exactly known for his truthfulness, is he?

So, when I saw his recent post announcing that he was starting a 40 days and 40 nights hunger strike today, I couldn't but be slightly sceptical about the whole affair...

What Historical Era Do I Belong In?

by

"Have you ever felt that you could have had more fun if you've lived in a different era? Maybe have grand snow fights in the Ice Age or wear the dresses of the Victorian Era? it's time to find out where you really belong"
Oi! Who said "in the stone age"?

I'm actually very pleased with the results for that quiz... I love technology too much to be told that I belong in a time where there was no television or, even worse, no internet (the fact that I've managed to cope all these years before the internet was invented still amazes me).

So, yes, that was a good result... even so I kind of expected a historical era that I had already been in. But, hey, at least the one I've got has plenty of new technology to play with. Cool!

My Result

"Command: Greetings. Message: We are happy to meet you. here's an endless supply of money and a card for the new Alien Gym. You are going to love the future!"
Never mind the gym, bring my flying car and tell me where the holodeck is!

If you fancy having a go at this fun quiz, you can click on here to get to it, or, if you don't mind waiting a little bit, you can play straight from here (it should appear below in a few more seconds). But, wherever you do that quiz, let us know what your result is, okay? Thanks in advance.

11 Facts About Anti-Muslim Prejudice You May Or Not Know [Infographic]

by

Today's infographic is an informative and interesting one about anti-Muslim prejudice that we've found on TellMaMaUK.org website (many thanks to the TellMaMaUk Team for kindly letting us re-publishing it).

This is the second infographic from TellMaMaUK we've published on here (the first one being on the categories of anti-Muslim hate deniers) and, we have had, time to time, the pleasure to also publish statements from them on some of ours racism/anti-Muslim related posts. So, as you can see, the TellMaMaUK Team are no strangers to us...

Featured in today's infographic are:

  • Pavlo Lapshyn
  • The West Midlands terrorist
  • The doyens of the ‘Counter-Jihad’ anti-Muslim business which yields them millions of dollars in campaigning funds, Pamela Geller and Robert Spencer.

Stay safe!
